Our Mission

850 Florida Man exists because someone had to document it. Every week, the 850 area code produces more unhinged, inexplicable, and deeply Florida content than any newsroom could keep up with. We're not trying to explain it. We're just here to make sure it's on record.

Chip Swampwater

Senior Correspondent, Wildlife Desk

Chip has been covering Florida wildlife incidents since 2019, when a pelican stole his lunch and he decided to make it a career. He has been bitten by an alligator twice. Both times were his fault.

Bubba Gatorson

Crime & Courts Reporter

Bubba spent 11 years as a bail bondsman in Escambia County before pivoting to journalism. He says the two jobs are 'basically the same.' His sources are impeccable and mostly anonymous.
